Nemuro Sanma
(saury) Festival
Usually held in mid-October, this is a major event in Nemuro, which boasts the largest catch of saury in Japan. The saury caught in Nemuro is so fatty that it is also called fatty saury (toro sanma). At the festival, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat saury grilled over charcoal at the Wharf-side Robata Corner, as well as a saury box sale and other events such as yosakoi dance performances and singing shows.
