Lake Furen

Located between Nemuro City and Betsukai Town, Lake Furen is one of the largest swan landing sites in Japan. It’s also a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
The lake has a unique landscape, surrounded by a vast wetland, forests, sand dunes and other diverse natural environments. It’s also a popular spot for birdwatching: more than half of Japan’s wild birds (about 330 species) can be found here.
