Cape Nosappu
This spot is famous spot for having the earliest sunrise in Hokkaido. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot sea otters, whales and other rare wildlife.
Every New Year’s Day, many tourists from all over Japan visit Cape Nosappu to watch the earliest sunrise in Japan.

Cape Nosappu Lighthouse
The lighthouse located at the tip of the cape was built in the Meiji period (1868 to 1912) and is also known as the birthplace of Hokkaido’s lighthouses.
Bridge of Territories (Shima-no-Kakehashi)
Each block of this bridge represents one of the four islands in the northern territories, interconnecting with each other to form a “gate to pray for the return of the territories”.
Northern Territories Resource Center
Exhibits, materials and panels teach you about the four islands in the days before World War II, offering insights into the history of Japanese people living there and how they lived in the past.
Cape Nosappu Commemorative Ema for the First Sunrise of the Year
On New Year’s Day each year, a limited number of commemorative ema (small wooden plaques to write a prayer on) are distributed.
