Tourist information

Storing items while sightseeing
There are coin locker banks in Nemuro Station and Nemuro City Tourist Information Center.
Can I eat or shop at the markets?
Nemuro City’s markets (fish market, etc.) are for industrial purposes only and do not offer meals or retail products. If you’d like to try our great local seafood, head to one of our conveyor belt sushi (kaiten-zushi) restaurants in the day or a robata grill restaurant or Japanese-style pub (izakaya) in the evening.
What activities can I do in Nemuro?
Enjoy Nemuro’s nature through a variety of activities—take a stroll along our walking trails, go birdwatching, take a cruise, and much, much more!
Can I visit the Northern Territories (Kuril Islands)?
On September 19, 1989, upon approval by Cabinet, the Japanese government issued an advisory against travel to this area. Nemuro City is ground zero of activities calling upon Russia to return the Northern Territories to Japan, and as such, we request that you do not attempt to travel to the Northern Territories from Nemuro.
I’d like to watch the sun rise over Cape Nosappu.
On New Year’s Day every year, there is a bus for hatsuhinode, a ritual in which people watch the first sunrise of the year.
During the rest of the year, you’ll need to rent a car.
Please note that the only accommodation available at Cape Nosappu is a “rider house” (a super-budget dorm used primarily by bikers.)
